2026 comparison
Best budget apps for couples in 2026: the comparison
No app is perfect for every couple: some split expenses, some track a budget, others are actual bank accounts. This comparison sticks to what each company publishes, and says who each app suits best.
In short
- To know who owes whom: Tricount and Splitwise. For a couple budget with bank connection: Honeydue or Bankin’.
- For a shared bank account: Sumeria offers shared accounts. To split expenses and track a budget without a bank connection: SAVY.
- Splitwise’s free plan caps the number of expenses a day, with no official number published; Tricount is free, ad-free and unlimited, but has no budget feature.
- SAVY is this site’s app: we compared it on the same criteria as the others.
Our criteria
We compared the apps on five points that matter to couples: a budget (monthly or per-category limit), splitting expenses between partners, what the free plan includes, availability in French, and whether you need to connect your bank.
Information comes from each company’s official website, checked in November 2026. When something is not published, the cell shows a dash. Features and prices change: check the company’s site before choosing.

Who each app is best for
Tricount: to split costs simply, for free
Tricount is free, ad-free and has no expense limit, and lets you adjust each person’s share. It is widely used for trips and group outings. It has no budget, though: it tells you who owes what, not how much is left to spend this month. See also our Tricount alternative page.
Splitwise: for complex splits
Splitwise handles equal, unequal, percentage and share-based splits. But the free plan caps the number of expenses a day, with no official number published, and shows ads; a default split for a couple (for example 55/45) is part of Splitwise Pro. See Splitwise alternative.
Honeydue: for couples who want to link accounts
Honeydue is built for couples and relies on linking bank accounts. It lets you set a monthly limit per category, with an alert. The company says it is free for everyone, funded by optional tips. See Honeydue alternative.
Bankin’: to track all your personal finances
Bankin’ aggregates your bank accounts and categorizes transactions, with a budget per category. It is a personal finance tool: it does not work out who owes whom. See Bankin’ alternative.
Sumeria: for an actual shared account
Sumeria (formerly Lydia) is a French bank account. It offers shared accounts for two or more people, with a card available for each holder. It works if you want an account for bills; you still need to agree how much each of you puts in.
SAVY: to split expenses and track a budget, no bank
SAVY covers both needs: who owes whom, and a household budget with alerts at 80, 90 and 100%. Recurring expenses, several households (couple, house share, trip; 1 household of your own on Free, unlimited with Plus; you can join the ones you’re invited to), no bank connection, no ads. On the free plan, expenses are split equally and the budget is overall; custom splits (by income, 60/40) and category budgets are part of SAVY Plus, one subscription for the whole household. The downside: there is no automatic transaction import, you add expenses yourself.
How to choose in 3 questions
- Do you want to connect your banks? If yes, look at Honeydue or Bankin’. If not, Tricount, Splitwise or SAVY.
- Do you need a budget, or just to know who owes what? For balances only, Tricount is often enough. For a budget too, SAVY, Honeydue or Bankin’.
- Are your incomes different? Splitting by income needs an app that handles unequal shares: Tricount, Splitwise or SAVY Plus. To set the percentages, use our split by income calculator.
